New York Chapter President
Iris Auyeung is a rising senior at the Bronx High School of Science with a strong passion for literacy, writing, and educational equity. She is a member of the school’s Varsity Policy Debate team, an editor for the school newspaper. Iris is a finalist in the prestigious John Locke Global Essay Competition and also a recipient of the Scholastic Art & Writing Silver Key awards. Iris witnesses the literacy disparity among marginalized communities in NYC. Recognizing the widespread inequity of academic resources and the importance of early literacy to future learning, Iris works relentlessly to break this barrier by promoting literacy skills early on in elementary students from the underserved and immigrant communities in NYC. She leads high school students from the NYC and Long Island area in spearheading equity learning advocacy programs toward this effort. Iris is committed to expanding educational access and helping children in need build stronger foundations in grammar, writing, and reading skills. She envisions a future where literacy is accessible to all and is strongly motivated to help youths in realizing their dreams.
